CHC Clubhouse

Tianjin, China

Grandstands are prominent urban landmarks due to their enormous sizes as venues for congregation, leisure, and sports. The CHC Clubhouse is patterned after famous horse racing grandstands all over the world that have evolved as exclusive membership clubhouses.

The CHC Clubhouse will define the site as a landmark for horseracing not only in Tianjin but for China as a country. The building silhouette will follow the shape of a phoenix in flight making it a highly visible and symbolic structure seen from afar. As a destination landmark, the building will stand out from the surroundings.

Symbolically, it will represent the return of horse racing as a sport that is endearing to the Chinese. From ancient times towards the late 18th century, the affinity of the Chinese to horse racing has never been lost; it has gradually evolved into a sophisticated leisure activity that embraces culture, travel, horse breeding knowledge, stables management, and horse care and training.

The CHC Clubhouse will represent the abstract values of horse racing in China representing regeneration, elegance, modern lifestyle, technological innovation, wealth, competition, and global connectedness. Its design, showing the phoenix in flight will evoke animation, activity, and excitement that the sport of horse racing brings to every spectator.
